"My clients and I have worked with Jan Frutiger and A-Ball for over 20 years. Jan knows more about plumbing fixtures and fittings, from budget to historical correctness, than anyone I've ever worked with."

Probably more than you ever wanted to know about roughing-in your FF0001 high-tank toilet.
Water Supply:
The water supply shut-off valve may be either floor mounted (straight valve) or wall mounted (angle valve). Locate the valve outlet 7" from the center of the closet drain and 2 3/4" from the finished back wall (do not include baseboard in this measurement).
Bowl:
Your high-tank toilet is adaptable to a standard 10", 12" or 14" existing closet drain rough-in. If yours is a new installation or you are moving the closet drain, there are some things you should consider before locating your drain:
- Locating the center of the drain 12" from the finished wall is the current U.S. standard (do not include baseboard in this measurement). In the future, should you or anyone else decide to replace the high-tank toilet with a standard close-coupled or one-piece toilet and the drain rough-in is other than 12", toilet selection will be substantially limited.
- The closer your drain is to the wall, the more authentic your high-tank toilet installation will look. When the cover and seat are in an uptight position, they rest against the flush tube which runs from the tank to the bowl. When the bowl is located closer to the wall, the upright cover and seat rest in a more vertical position, which provides a better appearance. Based solely on authentic appearance, the ideal location of the drain would be a 9" center rough-in. But this rough-in will prevent the installation of any other toilet without first moving the closet drain, often a very expensive job.
All things considered, we recommend a 10" center rough-in for the drain as the first choice and 12" as a perfectly acceptable second choice.
Tank:
The height of the FF0001 tank on the wall is a matter of personal preference, limited only by the length of the flush tube and by the height of your ceiling (obviously you need to leave room above the tank for servicing the flush mechanism). Since the flush tube is 72" long and connects to the toilet bowl's flush ell 15" above the floor, the maximum height of the bottom of the tank would be 87" (and require that the water supply shut-off valve also be 15" above the floor).
For optimal appearance, practicality and performance, we recommend locating the bottom of the tank from 66" to 72" above the finished floor.
Your FF0001 tank is secured to the wall with its hanger, which is constructed of 1/2" x 2" oak solid stock. For the purposes of installation, consider the bottom of the hanger even with the bottom of the tank.
The hanger should be attached to the wall (centered to the bowl and level) with flat head #10 or larger wood screws of an appropriate length to be driven 2" into the wall studs. Be sure to pre-drill and countersink holes in the hanger to avoid splitting.
When framing new construction or a remodel, nail your backing block to center 9" above where you want the bottom of the tank to be. Then when you install your FF0001, run the screws through the upper horizontal (weight-bearing) brace of the hanger. Don't forget to pre-drill and countersink your screw holes.
