PORTLAND, OREGON -- A-Ball Plumbing Supply, 1703 West Burnside, was in large part
responsible for CBS' incorporation of a $35,000 copper bathtub in their production of Larry
McMurtry's story "Buffalo Girls." The program airs in two parts on Sunday, April 30, and
Monday, May 1.
According to A-Ball owner Kent Frutiger, "We thought this unique bathtub might be just
the right piece for a program about the Old West. CBS thought so, too. We're delighted."
The tub, a Kallista product, is from their Archeo line and was crafted by the same
coppersmiths who refurbished the Statue of Liberty's torch. In "Buffalo Girls,"
the Archeo bathtub is one of actress Angelica Huston's prized possessions that she always
takes when she travels.
The unique bathtub isn't really all that unusual an item for A-Ball. The plumbing supply
company has been in business in Portland for 20 years supplying those who take an active role
in the value of their homes. According to Frutiger, "We've become known nationwide for our
unique line of original products though we supply many bathtubs for far less than $35,000."
